People who live on the eastern coast generally don’t have cabins up north to use for vacations as is popular in the mid-west. Instead, they flock to the eastern shore for vacation. The benefit of vacationing on the beach is that you share your vacation with tens of thosands of other people, as opposed to the horrible isolation of a private cabin. Traffic, lines, crowds of interesting looking people and their screaming kids are all benefits of an east coast beach vacation. I’ve been coming out here for 9 years now and I love it more with each passing year…for some reason.

Landis in the wild

A buddy of mine went on a group ride last week and Floyd Landis showed up. Landis was talking smack about the Tour de France now being a Cat 3 race because all the good riders had been thrown by the French…so I guess that means Landis had to be hopped up on whatever drugs in order to beat a bunch of Cat 3’s in 2006. There are some companies in the industry that continue to suppy Landis with equipment. I don’t understand why.

I got spanked and dropped. Ped waited for me. He was nice and rode slow. I had cramps in both legs. We caught up with ScottE and JT in Wayzata. They stopped for water since it was hot like. I limped back home. The end.

We were laughing about Riccò on the Tuff Guy ride last Tuesday wondering when he would get popped. Seems like the dope controls are working, the dopes are being shown the door.

Yes, there were oil spills from Hurricane Katrina.

Houston Chronicle:

Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters unleashed 1 million gallons of oil from one of the massive storage tanks at Murphy Oil’s nearby refinery. The spill spread over 1 square mile and stained 1,700 homes, making it one of the largest environmental spills to occur in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

But it was far from the only one.

A Houston Chronicle review of data from the National Response Center shows that the two storms caused at least 595 spills, incidents that released untold amounts of oil, natural gas and other chemicals into the air, onto land and into the water.

And yet, our "liberal media" continues to host guests that spew nonsense about Katrina not causing a single drop of oil to be spilled.

I don’t like (dis).

But I do like Old Navy.

I don’t care if those clothes are sewn together by Chinese babies, that stuff is cheap! Plus they are always playing the latest dance tunes in the store and there is lots of room for Toddler Smithers to run around.

The only annoying thing is the members of the Teen Girl Squad that are always in my way when I am shopping.

The failing of capitalism

It seems to me that the free market is really great at providing people with what they want in the here and now.

Where the free market seems to fail is in planning for the future requirements and services that the public will need.

If fuel costs continue to rise then the public is going to desire a more developed mass transit system than we currently have in place in this country. It’s obvious that private industry is not going to invest in a mass transit system, since they have not to date. We could have a serious near term need for this system.

I think government needs to have a more active role in trying to forecast the future needs of society and in making plans to address those needs.
